After my children were poisoned by carbon monoxide in their daycare, I learned a hard lesson: It's going to fall on all of us to create CO-safe campuses.

 

Based on data collected by CO Safe Schools, over 2,500 children and school staff members have been injured by carbon monoxide on school campuses in the U.S. since 2004. The reason? Outdated code, aging equipment, lack of awareness and training, and a bought-into old narrative. This educational session challenges attendee assumptions and reframes how they look at and address the carbon monoxide risk in their own communities – leaving attendees feeling empowered to take on the challenge.

By the end of this educational session, participants will be able to: (a) Understand the modern sources of carbon monoxide on school campuses. (b) Review CO data that shines a light on gaps/opportunities for improvement in CO regulations and building code – showing where, when and why CO exposures took place and (c) have resources to help them get involved in CO safety on their own community's campuses.
